How does this solar-powered irrigation system work?


Irrigating a large farm can mean significant costs in terms of electricity bills. It's important to remember that solar installations aren't just used to power the water pump; the energy generated can also be used for residential or other utilities on the plot.


Due to the size of this project, the decision was made to install enough panels to generate 100kW of power, which are responsible for pumping water to fill a 100,000-liter tank. During the day, the tank is filled with energy generated by the solar panels. At night (when electricity is cheaper), the system can fill the tank and irrigate through the grid.


Summer is when irrigation is most needed, but it's also when we have the most hours of sunshine, so the system becomes even more efficient.


Using solar panels to pump irrigation water allows for significant savings in electricity, increasing profitability for farmers and making farming more environmentally friendly and sustainable.
